Level Design & Narrative Design
Worked on the games opening tutorial level and E3 Demo - Dead Ahead.
In addition to continuing my responsibilities from Strange Brigade with the games dialogue systems.
Due to the nature of Dead Ahead being a tutorial and opening level, this meant working under close observation from multiple management departments, in addition to keeping up with production reviews and quickly implementing the action points and testing feedback throughout the development process.
Through this collaborative process we were able to deliver an approachable experience for first time players, as well as an engaging challenge for returning fans of the series, all while continuing to maintain excellent communication across multiple departments and studios.
Continuing the narrative duties maintained on Strange Brigade, I was involved throughout the games narrative development as a writer, as well as helping implement the games new dynamic dialogue system.
This involved multiple cross site studio visits throughout the games development to keep the games structure and narrative tone consistent.
Responsibilities included:
Creating and maintaining up to date level documentation
Quick Prototyping of combat arena iterations to benefit the games gunplay & combat systems
Working closely with art to implement the approved prototypes within achievable deadlines
Delivering quick turn around on issues highlighted during production reviews and gameplay testing to ensure an accessible gameplay experience for first time users
Working within the allocated performance guidelines to maintain a smooth gameplay experience to the end user throughout the levels hectic combat arenas
Gameplay balancing to ensure a satisfying experience for returning fans of the series, while not alienating new players in the games opening segment.
Creating and maintaining multiple design documents for new systems used to improve on the ‘Trap’ designs from Strange Brigade.
Working closely with the Audio, Story, Art & Animation departments to deliver a solid story continuity throughout the games 9 core missions.
